I have a summer place that has a Burnham oil burner (forced hot air). The unit is about 7 years old (installed by previous owner).
The problem is that the unit will run fine for several cycles or more, but randomly fails to ignite. I then have to go down and hit the red reset button. Once I do that, unit fires up and is fine for another few days. Then it fails again.
I had a the oil company (who installed it) come take a look and they said the wiring was a little "messed up (?)" and they fixed it, plus did a system tune-up.
The unit now seems to go troubled-free for more cycles, but just when I think it's fixed, it stalls again. I just replaced the Honeywell, mercury-switch thermostat for a new Honewell digital...no change.
Similarly, the service tech said the unit could go into "safety-mode" if there is a power failure/glitch. Meaning, it would not automativally reset itself. That seems rather odd that this would be normal (as he stated). I can't see everyone running down to their basements and reseting their burners everytime there is a power failure.
Any thoughts would be appreciated...

IF its adjusted right it probably has a dead spot in the motor.

Any way this can be tested, like pull the motor out...or is not a viable option either??

Your service man should be able to check it with an OHM meter.
