no, I'm not expecting real $ quotes.  But I'd like to know if I should expect

to pay...    25%, 50%  double for a hallmark furnace (mfg by boyertown) than

for a Burnham  ?

btw  my 1996 oil-fired steam Burnham V73   appears to be cracked... so I'm gonna jump over that thread in a bit...

Even though this V73 pig has only lasted (1 month shy of) ten years,  a $3000-$4000 replacement cost, spread over 20years (ie what I EXPECT) aint that bad.  Like taking out a loan at   3.6% interest.

Thanks!

Hallmark is a hot air furnace. No good for steam. Burnham will give you a new V8 cast iron block. Usually one section bigger than the one your replacing because the V8 is downfired and you may need the larger block.  I replaced two this past month. If you get the new block for free take it but you will need to pay the labor. Usually 800-1000 dollars.  if Burnham decides you arent getting a block for free buy a Peerless or a Weil Mclain boiler and you will be happier.

Burnham has replaced the V7 with a V8, no questions asked.

I am expected to pay for labor.
