Been giving some thought to replacing our steam boiler and burner.  We bought the house a few years ago, the system works fine, but is obviously quite old (30+ years?)  The dilema we are dealing with is the fact that all of the piping for the boiler is encased in asbestos.  It also appears that the insulation in the boiler cabinet (not sure what term to use here, the enclosure that surrounds the boiler and burner) is asbestos as well.  Any ballpark numbers you could throw out there for getting rid of the asbestos prior to the installation of a new system?   Who would I contact to do this work?  FYI I am in Attleboro, MA.

The last one we had done was around 2000.00 Look up asbestos removal in the yellow pages. Sometimes you can leave it on the pipes.

Thanks for the ballpark number.  There is a company in Plymouth that does residential Asbestos removal.  Looks like we're going to hold off for now.  We're not sure how long we'll be staying in this house.  Looks like it could be a costly undertaking....

Unlike lead paint there are no waivers or disclosers about asbestos at the moment.
