The Reset Button

I know that little red button is very tempting to push when your heat isn't working. It can be very dangerous to push that button. If you must push it and the burner only runs for a minute and shuts off again, DO NOT keep pushing that button. The burner could backfire causing you serious harm or property damage. Newer controls will actually lock you out from the button after a few tries. The older style will let you push it until your finger falls off. They should be banned. A heating unit isn't like a car or washer or anything else it can kill you and you wont even feel the pain. Please don't play with your heating system.

Many calls lately for no heat that are dead batteries in thermostats. You should change them once a year. Save yourself the price of a service call ;)

Please make sure you have a working carbon monoxide detector in your home. You should have one near your boiler also.

Here's a new Weil Mclain oil boiler we just installed in Kingston MA. These boilers are super efficient and run nice and quiet. Anything that goes wrong with these boilers can usually be fixed in less than an hour.

Most of the problem calls for Air Conditioning this year are just dirty air filters. Also it may be better to use the cheap filters that you can almost see through. The fancy pleated ones tend to plug up to fast and slow down air flow across the coil to much.

Oil Lines In Massachusetts Need To Be Replaced

if they are bare copper and not visible. Like under your basement floor where most oil lines are. The new line has to have a plastic covering over it to protect it from damage. If you have an OSV (Oil Safety Valve) valve installed at your tank you are covered but believe me a new line is the better way to go.
Contact your service company to see if you are required to replace yours.
This new law goes into effect in July 2010 I believe.
